Community & Education: Community Collaboration
Student Musician of the Month
A collaboration with the Daily Sun newspaper and the Exchange Club of Flagstaff recognizing outstanding high school musicians — instrumentalists or vocalists. The SMOM is recognized with an article in the newspaper, an announcement from the Ardrey stage before an FSO concert and a public speaking and performance appearance at an Exchange Club meeting. Our March SMOM is Mariana Velasco, a 15 year old vocalist who attends Flagstaff High School. She began formal voice studies 2 years ago with Deborah Raymond, Associate Professor of Voice at Northern Arizona University. Mariana recently won 1st place in her division at the NATS voice competition. Click here to download an application for Student Musician of the Month.

Stories to Life
A family-friendly collaboration with Flagstaff Cultural Partners and the Flagstaff City / Coconino County Public Library that brings literature to life with actors and music.
Mentoring Through Music
This collaborative pilot project spearheaded by the FSO and the Juvenile Court system of Coconino County mirrors the aspirations of El Sistema to use music as a change agent for youth. Our program uses symphony attendance to help at-risk youth build and strengthen social skills and self esteem, encouraging the likelihood of their success with education, employment & personal growth.
A collaboration with the NAU Community Music and Dance Academy Ballet Troupe, this annual kid-friendly concert is underwritten by the Flagstaff Symphony Guild and Flagstaff Auto & Metal Recycler. The concert offers an abridged, matinee version of the Nutcracker for children at a nominal cost.
