COVID 19 Preparations
for Beethoven 5k
- PACKET PICK UP & REGISTRATION: The hours of packet pick up and on-site event registration will be expanded to accommodate athlete traffic and maintain CDC regulations for group sizes. Athletes are asked to wear a mask to packet pick up. Athletes will be able to pick up their race packet in an outdoor space. Athletes wishing to register onsite will be asked to wear a mask and provide their driver’s license and credit card to a volunteer who will enter and run their information; athletes will be asked to verbally agree to payment instead of signing.
- SANITATION: Staff and volunteers will wear gloves for packet pick up and on race day. No-handshake behavior will be encouraged for the duration of the event. Hand-washing stations and sanitation stations around the venue for athletes, volunteers and spectators will be increased. No-touch waste disposal stations and receptacles will be used as available. Frequently touched surfaces at race venue locations such as workstations, product distribution areas, tables and electronic devices will be cleaned regularly using CDC recommended cleaners. No touch aid tables with water cooler jugs will be available along the course. End of course food and fluid supplies will be single use/single serving closed packaging
- SOCIAL DISTANCING: Per current restrictions on gatherings, athlete density may be decreased by including corrals and interval starts. Athlete pre-race information will be available digitally only. Spectators will be asked to remain socially distant while cheering athletes. No handshake/contact on the race podium.
- HEALTH AND SAFETY: Awareness training regarding signs and symptoms of COVID-19 will be provided to all medical and volunteer staff. Communication with health authorities and healthcare facilities will be implemented to assist in assessment, referral and initial management of suspected COVID-19 illness of staff, participants, volunteers, and spectators. Athletes and spectators who may have traveled to COVID 19 hotspots in the last 14 days, may have had contact with someone with COVID 19, or have experienced any symptoms including fever, dry cough, sore throat and other flu-like symptoms, will be asked to remain home and not participate in the race
Working closely with the City of Flagstaff, The FSO will adhere to local government guidelines and regulations, particularly how they affect use of the City Park and Ramada at Buffalo Park

The Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra usually performs Beethoven’s 5th Symphony in a concert hall, but on July 18 runners and walkers will have the opportunity to be in the performance of Beethoven’s 5k! In honor of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, we invite the community to join members of the FSO, whether your speed is andante, allegro or presto, around the mostly- flat, foot friendly path. Known for his bold, powerful and expressive compositions, the 5th Symphony epitomizes Beethoven’s talent and force. In a 1k Kids Dash, young runners may even see Beethoven himself running alongside!
