5 interesting facts about the man who was voted the most popular living composer!

 

1. He served in the US Air Force.

John Williams was a pianist and brass player, and became a member of the U.S. Air Force in 1951.  He was even stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ, for a time! It was during his time stationed with the 596th AF Band at Pepperrell AFB, St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, that he really started to become recognized for his talent at arranging and where he composed his first score for the film You Are Welcome.

 

 

 

 

2.  He composed  the Olympics Fanfare & Theme Song.

Yes, that’s right. One of the most recognizable works worldwide was composed by John Williams!

 

 

 

 

3.  He is the oldest person to be nominated for an Oscar at 90.

This creative force never stops! His latest nomination is for Steven Spielberg’s recent film ‘The Fabelmans’, released in November 2022.

 

 

 

 

 

 

4. His son is a famous rock musician!

Joseph Stanley Williams, John Williams’s son, was the frontman of the famed band Toto during the first two albums, Fahrenheit and The Seventh One.

 

 

 

 

5. He sticks with what works!

The phrase “don’t fix what isn’t broken” exists for a reason! 94 films have been released with original scores by John Williams, and he still prefers to write the old-fashioned way-using manuscript paper and pencil.
